Bright New Year

Happy 2012! The weather seems to be perfectly matching my new year mood: yesterday my hangover was matched by some full on rain in London but today, to match my clearer head and happier spirits, it's bright blue skies. As ever the start of a new year means I'm full of resolutions, lists and plans. My optimism must have filtered into my fashion brain too, as I realised all the images I've been pulling off the internet were showing cheery brights.

Throughout the year, I plan to be implementing my "do something new each week" plan. It's something I did back in 2009, revived at the end of 2011 and intend to do throughout 2012. I find it really refreshing to go, eat, drink or try something every single week no matter how small and simple it is. And then to write them all down so you realise how much you've experienced over a year.

Since starting this up again at the end of last year, my list has included visits to 69 Colebrooke RowHonest BurgersPrintoutWest Norwood FeastSladEfes Snooker Hall and Mishkins. This year I hope to include more 'doing', rather than relying so much on visiting eating and drinking places (though obviously that's great too!). I spent a couple of hours yesterday teaching myself some new embroidery stitches - executed in very colourful threads of course.

The thing I like best about it, it's that it's a resolution that's relatively easy to implement. There's only ever a few weeks where I realise I haven't tried something new just as a matter of course, and it all just helps me realise just how lucky I am, and what a nice life I lead. And, if that isn't a reason to adorn myself yellows, reds and purples, I'm not sure what is. Happy bright new year everyone!

  1. I like your news year's resolution of doing something new each week. So much so, I think I might pilfer it! Let's see how long this lasts...

  2. Somewhat embarrassingly I think I originally read that resolution in a copy of Easy Living magazine of all places! I have been extolling its virtues to anyone who will listen ever since. I like the fact it's really positive rather than the usual "eat less" punishment style of resolution. Definitely do it! I'm sure you'll come up with some great new things.
